Top 5 Must Haves for Winter Camping

The Trangia camp stove has quickly become our favorite camp stove. We have had this stove for a little over a year now and we tend to use it the most out of all of our stoves. The stove fuel is super cheap in comparison to the fuel canisters and you do not need to find time to bring those heavy bulky canisters to the recycling center. The Trangia stove does not come with the winter attachment so we do want to let you know that it is a must have for cold weather camping. We enjoy the fact that the Trangia is almost completely silent. Here is a list of the Pros and Cons we have found while using the Trangia for the past year.

Our Favorite Add-on for the Trangia Camp Stove is the Sololight S1 Trangia Firebox Compatible Adapter for Storm Cooker Trangia Gas Burner. We use the adapter when we are in a hurry to boil up water, extra high heat, if we need more precision cooking.

The stove fan we have been using while winter camping in our hot tent has become a must bring a long item. The fan has been very reliable and for such a small fan it pushes quite a bit of heat around our tents. It’s important to have a fan to keep your indoor space from having too many hot and cold spots keeping your tent cozy and warm.

These camping cots are relatively new to us. We have used them three times so far but we do really like them. We originally used camp cots that we purchased from the Bass Pro Shop for several years. They worked great but they are very bulky, take up too much space, and weigh far too much. We mostly haul our gear out into the bush or on the ice using a couple of toboggans. So this fall we wanted to invest a bit of money in lightening up our load so the camp cots were our first upgrade. Comparing our cots from the Bass Pro Shop to the cots we ordered on Amazon, the two new cots together take up the space of one Bass Pro Shop cot and the two cots are less weight than one Bass Pro Shop cot. So this really helped to reduce the weight and space we will be putting on our toboggans and we can’t be more happy about that!

This our second winter (2025/2026) using this stove in our 12×12 Esker hot tent. We ordered the stove from Canadian Outdoor Equipment and we couldn’t be happier with this purchase. While using hard wood we get about 4hour of burn time between needing to get up out of bed to add wood to the stove. This stove keeps us super cozy. The stove is a bit bulky but we suggest getting the largest size stove you can use safely in your hot tent. You will definitely be more comfortable and have a more enjoyable time out in the cold months with a larger size stove.
